Trouble in Minecraft is based on Trouble in Terrorist Town from Garry's Mod and combines both strategy and tactics. Formerly known as MineMafia on our network, a match of TTT contains up to 12 or 24 players that are assigned three different roles 30 seconds after the start of the game.

Innocent

With no further help than their own weapons, trustworthy Detectives and the Traitor tester, the Innocents' goal is to unmask and eliminate the Traitors unknown to others. They can only rely on orders of the Detective, otherwise they have to take matters into their own hands and observe fellow players carefully to notice any possible murders and other suspicious activity. You can request other players to enter the Traitor tester to identify Traitors as efficiently and securely as possible.
Therefore the goal of the Innocents is to identify all Traitors, with the help of the Detective and eliminate them.

Detective

Wearing a blue leather jacket, the Detective is a trustworthy player over the game's progress although they are a major target for the Traitors. The Detective can lead the hunt for the Traitors using their shop that can be accessed by executing the following commands: /s or /shop. They also have the opportunity to communicate with their fellow Detectives in the Detective's chat which are accessible by typing @d or /d [Message]. Since they will be the most trusted player they carry a great responsibility and cannot afford any mistakes. The Traitors benefit from any wrong decision the Detective might make. Because of that they better think twice before killing a particular player. It is possible that multiple players receive this role, hence why you should never kill another Detective. Furthermore, they will get a case file for every corpse they identify. It will be filled with information about who is the culprit after 30 seconds.
The Detective's aim is to identify and eliminate all Traitors while trying to keep alive as many Innocents as possible. They can ask the Innocents to assist them in reaching this goal.

Traitor

Being disguised as harmless Innocents the Traitors will try and murder every Innocent and Detective, often doing so in small groups. They are aided by the Traitor's Chat and their shop which can be opened by typing @t or /t [Message] and /s or /shop respectively. This opens up many possibilities since they will have access to numerous gadgets that make killing and disguising themselves much easier. They will also be able to secretly communicate with each other, which is crucial for winning. You should never kill a fellow Traitor!
The Traitor's goal is to eliminate all Innocents and Detectives, with the help of his fellow comrades, and to preferably keep a low profile.

Therefore there are two ways a game of Trouble in Minecraft can be decided: Either the Innocents and Detectives identify and eliminate all the Traitors or they in turn are killed by the Traitors making them win.

Shop

The shops available to the Detectives and Traitors contain many useful items and can provide an advantage for their factions. Every gadget costs points which are earned by killing players. Both shops are accessed with the use of the following commands: /shop or simply /s.

  • A Traitor identifies a corpse: +1 Point and +50% of points stored within that corpse
  • An Innocent is killed by a Traitor: +1 Point

Weaponry/Gear

Every players starts with a leather jacket that will change its appearance depending on the assigned role (Traitors will become red and Detectives blue). Furthermore there are chests scattered all over the map placing gear into the player's inventory when right-clicking on them. In these chests one can find wooden swords, stone swords and bows with arrows. On every map, there is also an Enderchest giving the player an iron sword when right-clicking on it. Depending on your role this gear can be improved by utilizing the shop and earning points.

Traitor Tester

The Traitor Tester serves as a helpful instrument to the Detective, distinguishing between Traitors and innocent players. Whenever a player enters it and presses the button it will close for five seconds. If the player is an Innocent the glass above it will turn green. However, if it is a Traitor it will become red instead. Furthermore, a Traitor will have the opportunity to trigger the trap which on most maps is located somewhat close to the tester itself.

Using the Traitor Tester is voluntary. You may not kill players just because they chose not to use it.

Karma

Karma will be added or deducted from a player for every kill:

  • An Innocent kills a Traitor: +20 Karma
  • An Innocent kills another Innocent: -20 Karma
  • An Innocent kills a Detective: -50 Karma

  • A Detective kills a Traitor: +20 Karma and 2 Detective points
  • A Detective kills an Innocent: -20 Karma
  • A Detective kills another Detective: -50 Karma

  • A Traitor kills an Innocent: +10 Karma and 1 Traitor point
  • A Traitor kills a Detective: +10 Karma and 3 Traitor points
  • A Traitor kills another Traitor: -50 Karma
Furthermore, you receive +20 Karma for winning a game. The global ranking is based on the player’s total Karma.

Randomkilling

Randomkilling is normally being punished with a temporary network ban. Randomkilling is defined as indiscriminate killing of fellow players. Trouble in Minecraft is a game with heavy emphasis on strategy that would not properly function without these rules. Detailed instructions in which cases a Detective or Innocent is allowed to kill another player can be viewed HERE. If a given player commits Randomkilling, report him immediately by using the command /report <player> Randomkilling.

Tokens

For every 500 Karma earned you will receive a TTT Pass. This pass allows you to get a safe spot as a Traitor, Innocent or Detective for that round by using it in the lobby.

Simply type in /traitor or /detective and you will get assigned the role of Traitor or Detective in this game. Alternatively you are able to use the paper in the waiting lobby. The number of tickets remaining can be viewed before the game starts.

+++ Randomkilling Rule Definition +++
Following past requests, here is an additional guide to the regular instructions of TTT in which we give a more precise definition of ‘‘Randomkilling’’.

Firstly, it has to be clarified that no internal information concerning this topic will be published. Therefore, we will not tell you which particular cases will be punished to make sure that no grey areas are open for exploitation. That’s why this additional explanation is rather structured in a way that will explain to you in which cases you may kill an Innocent or Detective.

Everything else could then be summed up as Randomkilling (deviations from this principle are possible, since every case differs a little and is therefore up for multiple interpretations).
Still, we hope that this guide will support players.
An explanation of the various roles can be found in the instructions of TTT.

Randomkilling can basically be defined as killing fellow players without having a reasonable suspicion – indiscriminate killing
Now, in what cases is that suspicion actually justified?
When playing as an Innocent or Detective, you may be allowed to kill a player because of the following reasons:
  • A player attacks or has already killed a Detective
  • A player attacks a Detective/Innocent at random with the intention of killing them
  • A player is attacking me and trying kill to get the kill
  • A player can clearly be distinguished as a Traitor, since every other surviving player is proven* to be Innocent
  • A player can clearly be distinguished as a Traitor when six players are proven* to be Innocent in a full TTT12 game
  • A player has killed an Innocent and refuses to prove* that they themselves are Innocent (otherwise there is no obligation to prove oneself in any circumstance)
  • A player is deliberately (initiates the fight) killing an Innocent (this can be determined by identifying the corpse or if the victim has unmistakably* been identified as Innocent beforehand)
  • A player was clearly caught having activated the trap
  • A player was clearly identified as a Traitor by a Detective via the use of the Traitor Detector
  • A player is seen holding items that are not accessible to Innocents (e.g. Creeper Arrows, Swapper, Poisonous Grenade etc.)
  • A player has been spotted using exclusive Traitor items and was certainly identified as being the player to do so (e.g. Creeper Arrows, Swapper etc.)
  • A player can clearly be identified as a Traitor, if they have been aiding another player that has been without a doubt identified as a Traitor
  • A player can be identified as a Traitor since they have clearly witnessed and intentionally ignored a fellow Traitor killing another player (while initiating the fight and purposely killing) – do not rule out the possibility of a player being AFK!
  • A Traitor can clearly be identified, if a fellow Traitor is not able to kill them using weapons
  • A Traitor can clearly be spotted, if the Traitor Tester has identified them as such (the lamp turns red & a deep sound rings)
Lastly, a tip for all Detectives: If a player has been killed, always identify the corpse first before proceeding to kill the culprit. The victim could have easily been a Traitor!

*Definition of proof: Players which have been identified as Innocent through various possibilities. These following are the possibilities: They killed a Traitor and the body has been identified by the Detective, through the Traitor Tester (be aware of Innocent Tickets) or randomly identified by a Mobile Tester from the Detective.
